WHAT SETS US ABOVE THE REST

Your dog will be much more successful if you begin training in a quiet, indoor environment. Outdoor environments and noisy, busy indoor environments are great for advanced training, but can be overwhelming to a new puppy or dog.
Its one thing to bring your dog home tired...and another to bring him home with manners. Our Doggie Dayschool® program operates much like a service dog training program....we "jump start" your dog in basic training and you follow up with training classes and practice at home. Experience shows that the foundation training, number of repetitions, and the environmental variety received in our Doggie Dayschool® program make for a very solidly obedient dog. Our Dayschool dogs also go home tired, but at the end of the day, they have exercised their minds, not just their legs.
If your dog is less than one-third of your weight, you would be able to overpower it to control it. Using that philosophy, though, only the humans in your house strong enough will be able to control your dog. At Teawworks, we don't believe in using brawn to train a dog - we believe in using brains. If you visit places like the Dolphin Research Center in the Florida Keys, you will find that they learned to use operant conditioning and positive-reinforcement-based techniques a long time ago. (After all, you would be hard-pressed to be stronger than a dolphin.) Be very wary of trainers who tell you that you have to "dominate" a dog to control it. You can have leadership without being aggressive towards your dog. More importantly, your children and the people in your house that don't out-weigh your dog can have leadership and respect from your dog too. |

At Teamworks, we feel very strongly that a successful relationship is created between dog and human by building trust and mutual understanding. We believe in and use humane training methods that enhance the communication between handler and dog . We teach our classes using positive-reinforcement based training and encourage the use of humane "people empowering" techniques in our classes. We do not use or tolerate harsh and inhumane punishment-based methods, as we feel that this type of punishment breaks down the relationship between dog and handler and in itself, escalates aggression. We subscribe to and agree with the humane training standards set forth by the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors and The Association of Pet Dog Trainers. |
